Hastings OWN

In June 2004, a few women in Port Macquarie meeting for coffee once a month, decided to become affiliated with the Older Women's Network, NSW, and are now the 21st OWN group in NSW.

Since then we have invited a number of speakers from the community, including an historian. We organise monthly picnics for our members and provide transport for older women who, through disability, are unable to use public transport. This has been appreciated by women who are less mobile. We run weekend activities, perhaps a movie, a swim, or a visit to many of the events which are abundant during the summer months in our area. We try to keep the costs down by choosing venues and activities which are affordable for our members.

Older women have so much experience, so we are planning to have sessions where we listen to women's stories about their lives. We may be growing older but we are still growing.
