Following a public meeting at Harris Park Community Centre in June 2003 our group was formed, we still meet there on the 4th Monday of the month, although the room is small, we find it a warm and friendly environment in which we can get to know and offer support to each other.

We have built an integrated activity based inclusion in community events e.g. opening of the community garden, our support for local youth through stories and other community functions. We also have an interest and some involvement with Parramatta council.

Companionship and support within the group is a major focus along with awareness raising and visits and speakers on women’s health and wellbeing.  We wish to maintain and build upon our current level of companionship friendliness and support in a non-judgemental atmosphere. We wish to help increase the level of understanding of the rights and expectations of older women through discussion, reading, visits by guest speakers, outings. Networking and community events will remain an important feature of ongoing activities. It is hoped to challenge ageism in all of its forms by raising awareness of each other’s potential and to have fun while doing so.

Outings, embracing many different cultures and intellectual challenges have been fostered in our ongoing growth.

Our regular activities may include the following:

  • Discussion Groups
  • Guest Speakers
  • Excursions
  • Morning Teas
  • Writing Group

We aim at supplying information to our members through invited speakers. We also aim at encouraging friendships and fun through members’ talks and activities.
